The Jade Carver's Palette
One of the great joys of jade as an artistic medium is its near endless varieties, patterns and colours. Contrary to popular belief, not all jade is green. It comes in a great diversity of colours from white to black and many in between. From uniform in colour to patterned and mottled. Each stone provides a different aspect to the jade carver's pallet.
I only carve untreated and authentic nephrite jades from around the world, and jadeite jades from Guatemala.
Below is but a small selection of the jade carver's pallet.

Siberian Jade
A classic example of a white jade from the Siberian region of Russia, which foggy rootbear regions mixed into the white.

Chinese Jade
Not quite white, not quite green. This stone from the Kunlun mountain of northwest china is called a Celedon jade.
On the note of "Chinese jade" it is commonly Jadeite jade that is referred to as such. There are no nearly all of the jade that comes out of China is in fact nephrite jade.

Wyoming Jade
An interesting and rare example of a blue wyoming jade. This stone came from a very small deposit of an old miner out of Casper, Wyoming.

Yemeni Jade
A very rare River stone from the country of Yemen.
Some incredible beautiful apple green and yellow/green jades from the mountain and rivers of Yemen.

B.C Jade
An example of the quintessential jade from British Columbia, with a dashing streak of blue.

Wyoming Jade
Refered to as a dark olive jade, these jades out of wyoming are some of the easiest and most rewarding stones to carve due to there nearly grainless makes and incredibly smooth consistency.
Despite the inreasing cost and rarity of these stones it is still possible to source some each year.

B.C Cassiar Chrome Jade
At one time these jades were tailings from the Asbestos operations in Cassiar B.C. Now they are highly prized as some of the finest B.C jades around.

Guatemalan Jadeite
Blue/green jadeite jade from Guatemala.

Wyoming Olive Jade
Perhaps some of the finest nephrite on the planet. An unbelievably smooth and fine grained jade that will handle any form imaginable.
A small amount of this stone is made available each year through the sale of private collections.

Ogden Mt. blue/green Jade
A lesser know jade variety of B.C.
When cut thinner a beautiful hue of blue can be seen blended into the green and chromium spots.

Yukon Snow Jade
The official jade of the stone of the 2011 World Jade Symposium. Very bright and striking green from the remote and rugged mountain of the Yukon Territories in northern Canada.

Borneo Jade
From the Island of Borneo this stone will present more of a blue after initially cut, and will slowly change to a shade of green as pictured above.

Yemeni Jade
Very close to apple green with a hint of yellow. A very hard and uniform grained stone mined from the rugged mountains of Yemen.

Wyoming Sage Jade
Very fine grain and unique stone from Wyoming, USA.

Wyoming Sage Jade
A very unique pattern only found in Wyoming, USA. Incredible fine grained jade with quartz crystal pseudomorphs present(see top of photo).

Sugar Jade
Named during a time when all sugar was brown, this sugar jade is from N.W china in the Kunlun mountains.

Porcelain Jade
This beautiful and unique stone comes from the Kunlun mountains of N.W China.
The darker areas of the stone consist of decomposed pyrite and provides excellent contrast to the lighter areas.
